In Florida on November 1, a private business jet Learjet 60 crashed. The aircraft crashed onto a road near residential development and caught fire. All nine people on board died. Reuters reports this.
The 2004 model aircraft took off from Texas and was heading to the Bahamas. In the Greencrees area, not far from Palm Springs, it suddenly lost altitude and crashed near a busy highway.
The crash was captured on car dashcams. In the footage, it is visible that the jet was descending almost vertically. Later an explosion occurred. A deep crater remained at the impact site, and debris scattered throughout the surroundings. The scene was already compared to a rocket strike.
According to preliminary data, no one was injured on the ground, however several local residents lost their homes.
Before the catastrophe, the pilots reported to dispatchers about icing, precipitation, and moderate turbulence. At an altitude of about 10.7 km, the crew requested another descent of approximately 600 meters, but soon the aircraft began to rapidly lose altitude.
According to the decoding of the communications, the descent initially went at a speed of about 3 kilometers per minute, then - about 6 kilometers. The pilots reported the emergency situation and filed a distress signal. In one of the last messages they warned that collision with the ground was inevitable. In the final radio exchange, the crew also reported that "time was up."
