Researchers from Donghua University in Shanghai have discovered a new way to create fibers with embedded electronic circuits.

At the core of the technology is a special spinning process using microfluidic channels. It allows creating several layers inside a single fiber, each responsible for its own function, and combining them into a single electronic system.

Such fibers can glow, process signals, perform computational operations, and also respond to touch and movement even without direct contact.

At the same time, the material retains the properties of ordinary fabric. They remain flexible, they can be knitted or sewn into clothing. They also withstand repeated bending and washing.

According to the researchers, the technology will allow creating textiles that retain the properties of ordinary fabric and at the same time perform the functions of electronic devices.
