How many energy sources are planned to be commissioned in Belarus over the five‑year period was reported by Vitaly Kretsky, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization – Director of the Department for Energy Efficiency, at the III Practical Conference "Increasing the Energy Efficiency of the Economy of the Republic of Belarus" in Minsk, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

In accordance with the National Security Concept of Belarus, the involvement of the country's own energy resources in the fuel‑energy balance remains a key direction for enhancing energy security and energy independence, noted Vitaly Kretsky. Among the successfully implemented projects, the director cited the construction of modern energy sources in the Brest and Minsk regions: a boiler house with a capacity of 9 MW in Mikashevichi (fuel — wood chips) and a 10 MW pellet-fired boiler house in Logoysh.

Currently, there are about 11,000 energy sources operating in the country, excluding those of the Belenergo state association. "More than 7,000 of them (66%) have been converted to use local energy resources. Consumption of local fuels in 2025 amounted to approximately 3.5 million tonnes of conditional fuel, which allows for the annual replacement of imported natural gas consumption by 3 billion cubic meters," the director emphasized.

Vitaly Kretsky also included among the main tasks for the current five-year plan a 4% reduction in the energy intensity of GDP by 2030 compared to the 2025 level, with a GDP growth rate of 115.8%. This also includes achieving savings of energy resources through the implementation of energy-saving measures totaling 1.31 million tonnes of conditional fuel, as well as reaching a share of renewable energy sources in gross final energy consumption at the level of 7.2%.
