From January to August of this year, 16.4 thousand passenger cars were imported from Belarus to Russia, which is 8.4 percent less than in the same period last year. This was stated by Sergei Tselikov, general director of the Russian agency Autostat, in his Telegram channel, reports sb.by.

He clarified:

— Imports of new cars fell by 9.7 percent to 8.5 thousand, while imports of used cars decreased by 7 percent to 7.9 thousand units.

According to the report, the most expensive European premium-brand crossovers are mainly brought through Belarus as new vehicles. The top five most popular include the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (819 units), BMW X5 (564), Land Rover Range Rover (539), BMW X7 (394), and Porsche Cayenne (386).

The top five models imported into Russia in used condition are as follows: Buick Encore (295 units), Peugeot 5008 (295), Peugeot 3008 (250), Volkswagen Passat (321), and Renault Megane (227).

Almost half of the used cars imported through Belarus this year have diesel engines, Sergei Tselikov clarified. Growth in this segment is plus 60 percent compared to last year. At the same time, imports of gasoline cars are declining. According to the expert, the share of cars with over 160 horsepower imported into Russia through Belarus is 94 percent, while among used cars this share is less than 20 percent.

At the same time, as previously reported by the government, the Belarusian passenger car manufacturer SZAO BELGEE produced 73,673 cars in the eight months of 2026. A total of 42,147 vehicles were sold for export, and 32,916 on the domestic market. The company itself notes that the BELGEE brand, in just a few years, has become one of the leaders not only in Belarus but also in the neighboring Russian market.
