A 25-year-old resident of Volozhin was found guilty of illegally acquiring, storing, transporting, and carrying ammunition, the Zavodsky District Prosecutor's Office told the Minsk-Novosti agency.

The cartridge was found in the evening at the Mogilevskaya metro station. A security officer asked one of the passengers to show the contents of his hand luggage. A cartridge was found in the man's backpack, after which the police were called to the scene.

An examination showed that the cartridge was manufactured industrially and is ammunition for a hand-held rifled firearm.

In court, the man fully admitted his guilt. He said that the day before he had met acquaintances, one of whom said he had found a cartridge on the road near his house. The resident of Volozhin asked to see the find, and later, when getting into a minibus, put it in his backpack pocket.

His acquaintances advised him to throw the cartridge away and warned that he might not be allowed into the metro with it. The man ignored their advice.

The prosecutor's office clarified that the convicted man works as a plasterer at a private company and had not previously been brought to criminal responsibility. The court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 295 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to a fine of 9,000 rubles.
