How Belarus can achieve annual GDP growth of 3% was explained by Alexander Yegorov, first deputy chairman of the National Bank's board, on the air of the "First Informational" TV channel, BelTA reports.

As Alexander Yegorov noted, the target GDP figure for 2026 is 2.8%. In addition, the All-Belarusian People's Assembly has set the task of growing by an average of 3% annually. The first deputy chairman explained what is needed to achieve this figure.

Today, the head of state is setting several tasks for all the country's economic bodies — to increase their share of sales on the Russian market, as well as to diversify exports by selling to many countries. "Without fulfilling these tasks, it is impossible to achieve average growth of 3% over the five-year period. And for this, it is not enough to simply go to other countries and sell our products. The products must be competitive," the first deputy chairman stressed.

He explained that behind increased competitiveness lies the development of high-tech sectors such as IT and biotechnology, as well as the most efficient use of own resources — land and forest — and expand manufacturing based on local raw materials. "We also must make decisions faster, avoid red tape, reduce production costs and, most importantly, be ready to take responsibility. And most importantly — work more efficiently. Work faster, better and with higher quality than citizens of other countries. For example, like the IT sector, which has blossomed thanks to the decisions of the head of state. This is ultimately the key to success," Alexander Yegorov noted.

The first deputy chairman stressed that GDP is not an abstract figure from Belstat's monthly reports, but a direct reflection of how we live. "Today, the old mechanisms of simply increasing volumes no longer work. To fulfill the task and grow by an average of 3% per year, our economy must work significantly more efficiently and boldly embrace new global trends: implement artificial intelligence, digital services, deep automation and biotechnology," he said.

Alexander Egorov added that there is no need to invent anything new to achieve this. "We already have a solid foundation that has proven its reliability. The Belarusian agro-industrial complex guarantees food safety and generates steady export revenues, while the advanced IT sector creates high added value. By combining modern technologies with our traditional strengths, we will be able to produce truly competitive products, reduce their cost price, and confidently sell them both to Russia and to the countries of the Global South. The sustainability of the economy and the well-being of every Belarusian are not granted from outside. They are created through daily effective work at one's workplace. GDP ultimately depends on each of us," the First Deputy Chairman emphasized.
