Victims paid fictitious customs duties.
Fraudsters offering intermediary services for purchasing cars abroad continue to deceive gullible citizens. Despite regular warnings from customs authorities, buyers keep transferring large sums of money to scammers.
One million rubles for nonexistent cars
Since the beginning of this month alone, 49 defrauded citizens of the Russian Federation have contacted the Grodno Regional Customs. All of them were trying to find out the status of their cars, for which they had transferred a total of 1,000,000 Russian rubles to the fraudsters.
As it turnedえた, the victims paid fictitious customs duties and fees for vehicles that did not actually exist.
How to spot a fake
Customs officers strongly recommend carefully checking any documents sent by intermediary companies. Scammers use fake forms and receipts that list fees that do not exist in the legislation.
Most often, fraudsters demand payment for:
Notices of the need to pay "security" deposits
Commercial recycling fee
Other fabricated duties
Remember: customs authorities never issue invoices to private intermediary companies for the payment of taxes or duties on behalf of individuals.
