Administrator September 8, 2026 17:00 The EAEU quota for duty-free import of electric vehicles into Belarus may be changed

In 2026, our country could import 20,000 "electric cars."

How much the quota may be changed

The Association for the Development of Electric Transport has proposed requesting an additional quota from the EAEU for duty-free import of "electric cars."

They want to increase the number by 5,000 to 7,000 for 2026.

Let us recall that companies exhausted their 14,000 back in mid-July, and ordinary Belarusians in early September.

Can the EAEU increase the quota

The decision on quotas is made by the Eurasian Economic Commission. For example, Kyrgyzstan recently had its quota for duty-free import of electric vehicles in 2026 increased. Earlier, a similar decision was made regarding Armenia.

Our country, however, wants to come forward with the initiative only now.

For now, you will have to pay for an "electric car" at the border.

The customs duty currently amounts to 15% of the car's value. It must be paid when declaring.

However, this does not mean that individuals will not be able to use another benefit. If they import an "electric car" no older than five years from the date of manufacture, then under a decree of the President of Belarus they may not pay VAT.
