tania September 2, 2026 11:29 GDP growth of 3% per year is achievable for the Belarusian economy. This was stated by Alexander Yegorov, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank's Board. Thus, the monetary authorities have outlined the conditions for an economic breakthrough.

GDP target: 2.8% in 2026 and 3% on average

First of all, the target for 2026 is 2.8%. In addition, the All-Belarusian People's Assembly has set the task of growing by 3% annually. Without this, average GDP growth over the five-year period is unattainable.

GDP growth requires competitive products

However, simply selling goods abroad is no longer enough. Products must be competitive. The focus is on high technologies: IT and biotechnologies. It is important to use land and forests efficiently. To develop production based on local raw materials. Moreover, decisions need to be made faster and production costs reduced. A separate task is increasing the share on the Russian market. At the same time, exports need to be diversified. Goods will go to Russia and the countries of the Global South.

Technology plus traditional strengths

At the same time, Yegorov emphasized: there is no need to invent anything. The agricultural sector already guarantees food security and revenue. The IT sector creates high added value. Consequently, GDP growth will be driven by automation, artificial intelligence, and digital services. The economy is driven by the daily effective work of everyone.
