Between Minsk and Moscow they will launch a high-speed train. From one capital to the other, you will be able to travel on it in three hours. That is the time it currently takes an express train to take us, for example, from Minsk to Mogilev. At what stage is the project now and when will the first high-speed train depart for Moscow, Marina Karaman explained in her author's project.
Today, to get by train from Moscow to Minsk or back, you need to spend no less than 7 hours and 12 minutes. At least that's what the Belarusian Railway website tells us. Three hours against that backdrop looks fantastic. And the designers say it's possible, and they are already building a high-speed line between Moscow and St. Petersburg. They plan to commission it in 2028, and next in line is the express route to Minsk.
What will the new railway between Minsk and Moscow be like?
It will be laid between the two capitals via Smolensk. Its total length will be 715 kilometers. Twenty-one high-speed trains will run on it.
As for the railway track and the rolling stock, of course they will be special. The high-speed trains will run on dedicated tracks that do not intersect with other routes.
Who is financing the project?
Funds for the construction of the
The next step is to develop a financial model. It will determine where the Union State will obtain funds for the construction and launch of the new railway.
Next, they will need to study the terrain along the entire length of the future route, take into account its geological features, assess intersections with existing tracks, and decide where to build stations. At the same time, the project authors will have to standardize technical standards, traffic control systems, and power supply for electric trains.
They plan to approve the financial model in 2028 or 2029. However, the main point is that the line will not become operational in Belarus until Russians have tested it on the local Moscow–St. Petersburg route. And this is not about physically breaking in new trains. It will be necessary to set up the operation of the entire mechanism of a new type of railway mainline.
They intend to launch express trains from Moscow to St. Petersburg in 2028. Therefore, according to the most optimistic forecasts, high-speed trains will begin flying to Minsk no earlier than 2030. Exact dates are not yet known.
The high-speed line will enable Belarus and Russia to improve the common economic space. An ecosystem where thousands of specialists will have the space and time to develop science, production, trade, and obtain additional education.
