From Gomel cottage cheese to golden-brown syrniki — a simple recipe for the whole family to enjoy

Consumer patriotism doesn't begin with loud slogans. Sometimes it begins with an ordinary trip to the store.

There, choosing among dozens of products, we notice what was made nearby, by Gomel residents, whose work you can literally taste. In the Sovetsky District of Gomel, there is an enterprise with a long history and traditions that specializes in milk processing and the production of dairy products. One could list its types at length, but perhaps it's best to talk about it not in the language of economic terms, but in the language of taste. For example, cottage cheese.

Here, lying in the refrigerator, are packs of cottage cheese with Belarusian motifs on the packaging. And within a few minutes, the kitchen fills with that very homemade aroma that cannot be confused with anything else. We take the necessary ingredients (mentioned in the recipe), and simple cottage cheese will soon turn into golden syrniki. It seems like nothing special. But it is precisely from such small home stories that an attitude toward what is one's own and native is formed. And there is an important nuance here: for good syrniki, cottage cheese is not a secondary ingredient. It is their character, their foundation, and almost the entire secret of success.

Culinary experts recommend medium-fat cottage cheese for this dish, about 5–9 percent, and it should be fairly dry, pliable, and uniform. Such a product allows you to get a tender center and maintain its shape during frying. That is why Gomel cottage cheese with the right fat content quite logically becomes the main candidate for classic syrniki. By the way, the manufacturer offers various options, including packaged cottage cheese weighing 180 grams.

Recipe: Gomel-Style Syrniki

Ingredients:

    • eggs – 1 pc.;
    • sugar – 1 tbsp.;
    • starch – 1 tbsp.;
    • semolina – 4 tbsp.;
    • vanillin – to taste;
    • flour – for forming the syrniki;
  • vegetable oil – for frying.

I actually buy four packs for my family. You might ask: "Why do syrniki love good cottage cheese?" Well, because syrniki are an honest dish. It's hard to hide the flaws of the main ingredient in them. If the cottage cheese is too moist, the batter starts to spread, and you even have to add flour, and along with it the unique tenderness disappears. If the cottage cheese is overly dry, the finished dish can turn out dense. But if you take a medium-fat product with a good texture, everything comes together almost by itself: the syrnik holds its shape, gets an appetizing golden-brown crust, and remains soft and curdy inside. Yes, exactly! Some people like syrniki with sour cream, others add jam or honey. Some prefer just a hot syrnik and a cup of tea. But in any case, a good result starts with the right cottage cheese.

And here consumer patriotism ceases to be an abstract concept. By choosing a product from the Gomel enterprise, we simultaneously choose quality, a familiar taste, and support for our city. This does not mean that domestic products should be bought solely out of a sense of duty. On the contrary. It works when you want to buy a domestic product because you genuinely like it. Because taste is the most convincing argument.

And when golden-brown syrniki made from our cottage cheese appear in the kitchen in the morning, the conversation about supporting the local producer becomes very simple. No grand words are needed. It's enough to put a plate on the table, call the family, and hear: "Can I have one more?"
