Employees of the Italian airport were routinely inspecting passengers' luggage and found a crocodile head in one of the suitcases. The animal is endangered.

Financial police in Turin discovered that the luggage owner arrived from Miami via Istanbul. “The reptile’s head was dried and wrapped in ordinary wrapping paper, which allowed it to bypass the security service of the country of departure,” the customs officers noted.

Border guards seized the head, and an investigation was opened against the passenger. The man is suspected of smuggling a specimen of a protected species without the appropriate certificate or license.
