International purchases are exciting, but when returning home it is important to remember the rules for importing goods. In Belarus, there are clear limits on duty-free import: they concern both the value and the weight of items. If these norms are exceeded, customs duties must be paid. Let's look at an example of how this works in practice.
Question: I bought a new iPhone 18 Pro (256 GB) for 1500 euros in a neighboring country. I am returning to Belarus by my own car. Do I need to pay a duty to avoid violating the laws of the Republic of Belarus?
Answer: Yes, when importing this smartphone into the territory of the Republic of Belarus, you must pay an import customs duty. According to Article 266 of the Customs Code of the EAEU and Annex No. 1 to the Decision of the EEC Council No. 107 for personal use goods, the duty-free limit for Belarus is 500 euros, and the weight limit is 25 kg.
Since the value of your smartphone (1500 euros) exceeds this threshold, a single rate is applied, established by point 2 of Table 1 of Annex No. 2 to the Decision of the EEC Council No. 107: 30% of the value for the amount exceeding the limit, but not less than 4 euros per 1 kg (in your case, there is no weight excess).
Thus, you should pay:
Additionally, a customs fee of 10 Belarusian rubles must be paid. At the border, you must follow the "red" corridor and declare the smartphone.
