Apple is developing game controllers for the iPhone, says Bloomberg insider Mark Gurman. They are likely to be released under the Beats brand. Rumors that Apple intends to launch such devices have been circulating for a long time, and recently MacRumors reported finding references to them in the macOS 26.7 code.
Despite the mentions being found in macOS code, Mark Gurman believes the controllers are being developed specifically for Apple smartphones, The Verge reports. The decision to release them under the Beats brand is explained by Apple’s policy regarding new “experimental” devices—launching them under subsidiary brands.
This applies to Beats cases and cables for, for example, the iPhone, which do not necessarily fully comply with Apple’s design code, Mark Gurman explains. A similar approach appears to be used for the game controllers, which can be made more accessible to a wider audience if they lack the Apple logo.
