In the first half of 2026, employees of Belarusian banks identified 235 counterfeit banknotes and coins - 195 banknotes and 40 coins. Most of the counterfeits were found in Minsk, with seizures conducted in 30 populated areas of the country.

This was reported by the press service of the National Bank.

Most often, counterfeit US dollars are found in circulation. They accounted for 66.8% of all counterfeits.

The share of counterfeit euros was 23.8%. Their number increased 5.6 times compared to the same period last year.

The majority of counterfeit euros were coins: 28 counterfeit 2-euro coins and 11 counterfeit 1-euro coins. Euro banknotes were found less often.

The geography of seizures covered 30 populated areas of Belarus, but two-thirds of all counterfeit banknotes and coins - 66% - were found in Minsk.

This is explained by the high intensity of cash circulation in the capital.

Separately, the National Bank noted that in the first six months of 2026, not a single counterfeit Belarusian ruble banknote was found.

This indicates a sufficiently high degree of protection of the national currency and the vigilance of cashiers.
