German companies are sounding the alarm over low gas storage levels ahead of winter. This was reported by Handelsblatt, according to TASS.

In the chemical conglomerate Covesco, they said they "see risks to gas supply in the winter period." Meanwhile, Westnetz, the gas pipeline network operator, sent a letter to all major customers urging them to update their contact details so they can be reached in case of a crisis situation. It also did not rule out gas supply disruptions. At the same time, a year earlier the company had not sent out such predetermined.

The concern of many companies is also evidenced by an increase in their requests to law firms asking to prepare justification for the need to obtain gas if it is insufficient for all consumers. It is explained that in case of fuel shortage, private households and social institutions — hospitals or nursing homes — will be supplied first. Companies want to protect themselves in advance and argue that they too urgently need gas.

Municipal utilities are already fearing a shortage today. The association of underground gas storage operators previously warned that Germany's gas storage facilities could be completely emptied by early February 2027 in case of a cold winter.

The approach of the heating season is rapidly reducing the possibilities for replenishing gas reserves in Europe's underground storage facilities, and its price has already reached the level of the energy crisis at the end of 2022.
