The Personal Data Protection Center shared an incident that occurred in one of the schools: parents were asked to indicate their salary and work experience in a questionnaire. Is this legal?

The agency reminded that organizations cannot collect personal data simply "just in case." To process such information, there must be a basis—a legal requirement, a contract, or a person's consent. If parents are unsure why the school needs certain data, they have the right to ask why it is being collected, on what basis, and to whom it may be transferred.

Previously, the Center also explained that schools cannot, as a general rule, collect information about where and with whom the child will be during the holidays. Exceptions are made for cases provided for by law, for example, if the child is in a socially dangerous situation.
