About how much postal workers earn and how the efficiency of post offices in rural areas is being improved, the television program "Economic Environment" on the "Belarus 1" channel reported that the general director of RUP "Belpochta" Svetlana Yurkevich discussed these topics, writes sb.by.

The department head emphasized that the enterprise pays special attention to preserving and modernizing regional infrastructure, more than 80 percent of which is located in rural areas:

"We are not going along the path of closing or simplifying facilities. We must ensure a full range of services and the standard that the state has entrusted us with. Our main goal is to increase the efficiency of this infrastructure, including through non-profit services."

One of the most successful directions for improving the profitability of regional post offices was retail trade. Today all rural post objects have been included in the official national trading register of the country.

"In total over the past year this amounts to more than 250 million (Belarusian rubles) – a sufficiently significant sum, both at the scale of the state," Svetlana Yurkevich highlighted.

Out of the 3,000 operating objects belonging to "Belpochta," approximately 2,000 are located directly in the countryside. Additionally, the enterprise serves 1,200 delivery routes in rural areas, its vehicles reaching every village.

During the conversation, the general director of "Belpochta" answered the question of how many people currently earn money working for the postal service. She reminded that higher education is not a mandatory condition for this profession. Indeed, during the summer holidays, young people are actively interning at the enterprise.

"For this season we had more than 800 student squad members working here. Of course, they performed less labor-intensive and less responsible work," noted Svetlana Yurkevich. "As for permanent employees, their income depends on the volume of work completed and seasonal factors. During subscription periods, a postman's salary can reach 2,500. The system is built so that for certain tasks, such as subscriptions or trade, they receive additional compensation."
