Belarus's foreign currency and gold reserves (ZVR) grew by $1.048 billion in August 2026, reaching $15.243 billion. These figures were published by the National Bank.

The main driver of growth was not currency, but gold, which rose in price on global exchanges.

The country's financial "safety cushion" continues to swell rapidly. According to fresh statistics from the National Bank, over the last month of summer, the volume of international reserve assets crossed the psychological threshold of $15 billion.

The asset structure confirms this clearly. The stock of monetary gold in vaults grew in price by a full $929.8 million in August, reaching $7.913 billion. Thus, the precious metal now accounts for more than half of the entire "piggy bank." At the same time, foreign currency holdings grew much more modestly — plus $108.7 million, to $5.9176 billion.

It is noteworthy that the real figures have already significantly outpaced official plans. According to the target parameters of monetary policy, by the end of 2026 reserves were supposed to be at least $9.2 billion. Reality turned out to be $6 billion more optimistic than the authorities' forecasts.
