Belarusians are increasing ruble savings. This is evidenced by updated data from the National Bank.

According to this information, citizens' short-term ruble deposits reached 18.9 billion rubles as of September 1st. Over the month they added 564.1 million rubles, or 3.1%.

The regulator records the growth in Belarusians' inclination to save in the national currency.

The National Bank of Belarus reported that in August 2026, population saving activity remained high, and citizens' short-term ruble deposits reached 18.9 billion rubles as of September 1st. Over eight months of 2026, the volume of such savings grew by 3.8 billion rubles, or 25%. Last year, the increase for the same period was 2.5 billion rubles, or 23.5%. The share of short-term ruble deposits among all short-term deposits of individuals on September 1, 2026, reached 72.9% compared to 64% last year.

Increasing the inclination to save in the national currency contributes to continuing the process of reducing currency depreciation. In August 2026, the share of the ruble component in the average broad money supply rose to 68.4% from 63% last year. The structure of the money supply is improving against the backdrop of faster growth of the average ruble money supply compared to the average broad money supply. The annual increase of the indicated indicators amounted to 31% and 20.6% respectively, noted the National Bank.

The average size of short-term ruble deposits over 12 months increased by 31.1% (by 30.6% last year), while individual contributions grew by 40.9% (by 38.3% last year).
