In Belarus, a project for an order is being discussed that would introduce mandatory certification under the "star" system for hotels. This was revealed by Tatiana Smirnova, head of the service certification department at BelGISS, during the airtime of the program "Actual Interview" on the First Information Channel, according to BELTA.
According to Tatiana Smirnova, the draft order has passed the approval stage and is currently in the government. "We are waiting to see what decision will be made. We are relying on Russia's experience, as they require mandatory certification," she said. "If the accommodation does not meet the necessary requirements, the certification authority issues non-compliance findings and specifies what needs to be done to obtain a category."
The draft order provides for a phased rollout. It is planned that by January 1, 2028, large hotels with more than 70 rooms will undergo certification, and by January 1, 2029 – those with fewer than 70 rooms. "It is expected that the process will proceed without complications. We have been preparing for this for more than a year," added Tatiana Smirnova.
She also informed that out of approximately 600 hotels operating in Belarus, only 90 have received official certificates of compliance ranging from "no stars" to "five stars." Among them, five-star hotels have five accommodations, four-star – ten, three-star – forty-four, two-star – ten, and no-stars – twelve. Nine hostels also completed certification. Official hotel certification can be viewed on the "Quality.Bel" website, which has a "Certified Hotels of Belarus" section. There one can check what category a particular hotel holds, how long its certificate is valid, and other details.
