Belarusian authorities plan to adopt requirements for pet breeders. The new rules will be approved by a special resolution of the Council of Ministers, which was drafted under the law on responsible handling of animals. This regulatory act clearly delineates the rights and obligations of pet shelters and future owners.

While the document is being prepared for adoption, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Production (Minselkhozprod) persistently urges buyers to be extremely careful when selecting and purchasing pets.

“That is, if I want to acquire an animal that, as they say, comes ‘ready to go’, I want the vaccination to be a specific vaccine, administered at a specific organization or a specific set of organizations – and that’s it,” explained First Deputy Director of the Department of Veterinary and Food Inspection, Kirill Glushchenko.

The introduction of licensing for veterinary clinics and state regulation of their service prices is not planned at this time. However, the conditions for housing and preparing the pet for transfer to a new owner can be detailedly agreed upon even at the transaction stage.
