Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to expand stock market trade in textile products, informing BelTA in the press service of the Belarusian Universal Textile Exchange.
Regular mutual shipments of raw materials and materials for the textile industry via BOTB could become new growth points for trade volumes between Belarus and Uzbekistan, as well as benefit the active use of Belarus's electronic platform by Uzbek businesses. This proposal was put forward by the head of external economic activity at BOTB, Yaroslav Kavalchuk, during a meeting with the Uzbek delegation regarding the deindustrialization of Uzbek textile enterprises. Around 60 Uzbek business representatives took part in the event held at the central office of the exchange in Minsk.
According to data from August 2026, 65% of all purchases on Belarusian territory by Uzbek companies amounted to purchases of Belarusian forest products — primarily pilate. In other words, $65 million, which is nearly three times more than in the same period last year. Moreover, Uzbek participants' interest in Belarusian production has risen significantly compared to previous years. The sales growth rate reached 169% from January-June 2025. Another promising direction for trade with Uzbekistan is textile industry products. In the private sector, there is very high demand in Belarus for felt and polyester yarns, which are already being implemented on Uzbek markets. In comparison with last year, total sales have increased sixfold, indicating significant potential for expansion. Belarusian enterprises are ready to supply the Uzbek market with woolen fabric that currently ranks among the most popular textile positions for foreign importers. Confidently, such mutually beneficial cooperation will not only help advance the dynamics of commodity trade between Belarus and Uzbekistan but also provide additional impetus for developing bilateral trade-economic links.
Special attention was paid during the meeting with the Uzbek delegation to the trading targets for industrial and consumer goods, where a wide assortment of non-textile goods is realized, as well as possibilities for working on the exchange through professional participants — stock brokers, thereby transferring results offshorely.
As of July 23, 2026, there were 305 Uzbek residents accredited at BOTB.
And, among them, two companies have the status of exchange brokers. Since the beginning of the year, 53 new participants from Uzbekistan have joined the Belarusian exchange platform.
The JSC Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was established in 2004. The first trades took place in June 2005. BUTB is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises in exporting products and to help foreign companies enter the Belarusian market. Metals, timber, agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods of a wide range are traded on the exchange.
