Belarus and Cambodia are expanding their cooperation in the transport sector. BELTA was informed of this by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus.

The Minister of Transport and Communications of Belarus, Alexey Lyakhnovich, met with the Minister of Public Works and Transport of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Peng Ponhea, at the Global Forum on Sustainable Transport in Beijing. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of civil aviation, road transport, and road construction.

Peng Ponhea specifically emphasized the Cambodian side's interest in building highways and bridges. “We have already completed the construction of a high‑speed highway connecting the capital with the seaport. The next stage will be a large‑scale project for a high‑speed road from Phnom Penh to the border with Vietnam. The third priority route will link the capital with Thailand,” he said.

In turn, Alexey Lyakhnovich confirmed the readiness of the Belarusian side to provide in‑depth expertise in road design and maintenance. “Belarus holds a leading position among CIS countries in terms of road density, and we are now focused on their modernization. Since 2014, the republic has been implementing a technology for laying cement‑concrete pavements, which are characterized by increased strength and durability. We are ready for full partnership: from exchanging experience and transferring technology to joint maintenance of the road network and implementing solutions to extend the intervals between repairs,” he emphasized.
