Company A1 announced the launch of home gigabit internet, as well as further modernization of the fixed network, development of the loyalty program, financial services, retail business, and digital products ecosystem. This was stated by Yuri Levdanskiy, Deputy General Director of A1 for Commercial Affairs, at a meeting with media representatives. He noted that the update of the home internet service lineup will take place in the near future.
According to Yuri Levdanskiy, the launch of gigabit access becomes possible after large-scale modernization of the fixed access network.
‘Already today, technically, a connection at a speed of 1 Gbit/s is available for 60% of our subscribers; we will continue to invest in network modernization and plan to have the capability to offer a 1 Gbit/s connection to all subscribers of our network by the end of 2027,’ said Yuri Levdanskiy.
For the launch of high-speed internet, the company will offer a corresponding tariff plan, the cost and terms of which will be announced later.
Furthermore, in the future, the modernized network could also serve as a basis for further development of voice services; separately, Yuri Levdanskiy mentioned Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) technology, which allows making voice calls over a Wi‑Fi connection when the subscriber is outside the confident reception area of the mobile network signal.
At the meeting with journalists, an A1 representative also reminded about the loyalty program 'A1 Plus', updated in August, and other company services and products: the A1 Skidki platform, development of the taxi service, ICT solutions, and convergent tariffs.
Regarding statistics, currently A1 operates more than 14,000 of its own base stations in GSM and UMTS standards; the company's mobile communication services are used by 5 million residents of the country, and internet services by 550 thousand. The company's mobile network covers territories where 99.8% of Belarus's population resides.
