A Slovak woman boarded the "Kaliningrad — Moscow" train. At the "Gudogay" checkpoint, the woman assured Grodno customs officers that she was carrying $3,000. Apparently, something alerted the officers, and they conducted an additional check. It turned out that the passenger had understated the amount by 17 times.
She had hidden approximately $50,000 in foreign currency of various denominations in her personal belongings and in the pockets of her clothing.
Investigators from the Grodno Regional Customs opened a criminal case. The Slovak woman faces a penalty of up to 5 years in prison.
All the money (approximately $53,000 in equivalent, or almost 160,000 Belarusian rubles) was seized pending the court's decision.
