Mogilev Region Declares Month of Safe Labor in the Forestry Industry

MogilevNEWS.by 01.09.2026 From September 1 through September 30, a month of safe labor during logging operations and woodworking will be held in the Mogilev Region. The initiative was launched by the Mogilev Regional Association of Trade Unions. The main goal is to prevent occupational injuries in one of the highest-risk industries.

Work in the forest and at woodworking enterprises involves heavy machinery, moving mechanisms, lumber, as well as dust and gas contamination in work areas. Therefore, during the month special attention will be given specifically to the prevention of violations and the development of a safety culture.

"Prevention is the main goal of this month-long campaign. It is easier to prevent a violation than to deal with its consequences later. Technical labor inspectors will not simply identify shortcomings in actual working conditions, but will also give workers and employers clear guidance on how to eliminate these shortcomings so they do not arise again," noted Sergey Sergeenko, Chief Technical Labor Inspector of the Mogilev Regional Association of Trade Unions.

First and foremost, inspectors will visit organizations where in 2025 and the first half of 2026 accidents occurred that were documented by acts of form N-1. This approach allows focusing preventive work where risks have already been identified.

At the same time, trade union technical inspectors intend to act not only as controllers. Together with employers, labor collectives, enterprise managers, and engineering services, they will seek solutions to improve working conditions and enhance the safety culture.

"We are not acting as an external supervisory body, but as a social partner of employers and labor collectives—together with enterprise management and engineering services we will develop solutions to improve working conditions and raise the safety culture. Such dialogue, built on mutual trust, delivers a much greater effect than one-sided control," emphasized Sergey Sergeenko.

Special attention will be given to worker education. As part of the month, seminars will be held for public labor protection inspectors, where typical mistakes and new requirements of regulatory acts will be examined. Round tables with labor protection specialists and representatives of supervisory agencies are also planned.

To inform workers, hotlines will be operational. In addition, trade unions will distribute memos, instructions, and videos on safe work practices.

This kind of prevention is particularly relevant for new employees who still lack sufficient practical experience, as well as seasonal workers brought in for logging operations.

The results of the occupational safety month will be reviewed at the regional commission on injury prevention.
