A city-wide "Job Fair" for the unemployed and able-bodied citizens not employed in the economy was held at the Labor, Employment, and Social Protection Department of the Gomel City Executive Committee (18 Proletarskaya Street). The personnel services of enterprises in the housing and utilities sector, transport, and other city industries presented their proposals.
The event was attended by KZhREUP "Zheleznodorozhnoe", "Selmashevskoe", "Sovetskoe", "Tsentralnoe", "Novobelitskoe Gomel", the Gomel branch of RUPPS "Belposhta", KUP "Gomel School Food Combine", KUP "Gomel Road Construction and Repair Trust", GAU "Gomel City Health Care Autobase", as well as branches of OAO "Gomeloblavtotrans" ("Gorelectrotransport", Bus Depot No. 1).
Job seekers were interested in working in the housing and utilities sector and other enterprises. Men were attracted to vacancies for drivers, packers, and loaders, while women were interested in working at the post office and the school food combine.
Deputy Head of the Labor, Employment, and Social Protection Department of the Gomel City Executive Committee Galina Samsonova explained that the main goal of such meetings is to inform people about real job opportunities:
"Our main task is to show that there are jobs available in the city, with good pay, and that employers are ready to offer them today. That's why we hold job fairs on a regular basis: every week with enterprises of communal ownership and transport organizations of Gomel. The effectiveness of such events lies in the fact that a person can communicate with representatives of several organizations at once. They don't need to travel around the city - they can visit several employers in one place. This is also beneficial for the organizations themselves: every week they receive additional job seekers."
According to Galina Samsonova, the job fairs are open to all categories of citizens:
"We try to attract all categories of citizens - both the unemployed and those who have committed offenses. From Monday to Friday, anyone can come, register as unemployed or seeking employment, and receive information about available jobs. And on Fridays, at the information event, they don't need to waste time and money visiting employers - they can come to one place and choose a suitable job."
Particular attention is paid to working with citizens who have committed minor offenses. Specialists from the department visit district administrations, where, together with the internal affairs departments, they inform people about job opportunities. The second venue is the department of labor, employment, and social protection itself.
When coming to us, people can receive not only information about vacancies, but also take advantage of active employment promotion measures, noted Galina Samsonova. This includes subsidies for those who want to engage in self-employment or individual entrepreneurship, training in the direction of the employment service, as well as programs to support employers: compensation for labor costs for the first job, adaptation of people with disabilities to work, and support for individuals released from places of deprivation of liberty. These programs are in place, and we invite everyone who is looking for work to come and take advantage of them.
