44 Proфилактория for calves commissioned in Mogilev Region
cherikovnews.by 3 September 2026 10:04 In the Mogilev Region, 44 prophylactoria with a capacity of more than 10,000 calves have been commissioned — that is 100% of the work planned for this year. This was announced to journalists by Olga Nikolaichenkova, First Deputy Chair of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, during a visit to a prophylactic facility at the "Mostok" dairy complex of OAO "Polykovichi" in Mogilev District, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The construction of prophylactoria in the region was carried out on the instruction of the head of state — the task was set to create comfortable conditions for keeping young cattle. "As of today, 44 prophylactoria have been built in the Mogilev Region. Comfortable conditions have been created for keeping more than 10,000 calves to eliminate housing them in the open air. We were supposed to complete this work by October 1, but we accelerated thanks to the well-coordinated efforts of all services, including construction organizations," Olga Nikolaichenkova said.
The new prophylactic facility in Mogilev District was built according to a standard design and is designed for 216 head. According to Aleksei Shuplyakov, Director of OAO "Polykovichi," the emergence of such a facility has improved conditions for keeping young animals, which is yielding positive results in animal survival. And, importantly, the working conditions for calf attendants have also significantly improved.
"Equipment has been acquired, including stalls, two milk taxi units, machines for washing buckets and teats, a defroster, a bucket dryer, and a drying box for calves after birth," Aleksei Shuplyakov emphasized. "The work of the calf attendants — and three people service this prophylactic facility — has become much more automated. Much of what they used to do by hand is now done by machines."
The prophylactic facility is stocked with their own calves. "Our herd allows us to ensure full occupancy with our own calves," the director noted.
Work on creating comfortable conditions for animals and improving their survival rate continues in the region. "Prophylactoria are being built as part of the construction of livestock facilities under Decrees No. 365 and No. 143. The goal is to improve conditions. There will be no calves kept in the open air. They are already under a roof now, and complexes continue to be built, along with prophylactoria," Olga Nikolaichenkova summarized.
