In the Mogilev region, 44 prophylactoria have been commissioned, with capacity for more than 10,000 calves — this represents 100% of the work planned for this year. This was reported to journalists by Olga Nikolaichenkova, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Food of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, during a familiarization visit to a prophylactorium at the "Mostok" dairy complex of OAO "Polykovichi" in the Mogilev district, BELTA correspondent reports.

The construction of prophylactoria in the region was carried out on the instruction of the head of state — the task was set to create comfortable conditions for keeping young cattle. "As of today, 44 prophylactoria have been built in the Mogilev region. Comfortable conditions have been created for keeping more than 10,000 calves in order to exclude keeping them outdoors. We were supposed to complete this work by October 1, but we accelerated thanks to the well-coordinated work of all services, including construction organizations," Olga Nikolaichenkova said.

The new prophylactorium in the Mogilev district was built according to a standard design and is designed for 216 places. According to Aleksei Shuplyakov, Director of OAO "Polykovichi," the appearance of such a facility has improved the conditions for keeping young animals, which produces positive results in livestock survival. And, importantly, the working conditions of the calf attendants have also significantly improved.

"Stalls have been acquired, two mobile milk feeders, machines for washing buckets and teats, a defroster, a bucket dryer, and a drying box for calves after birth," Aleksei Shuplyakov emphasized. "The work of the calf attendants — and this prophylactorium is served by three people — has become more automated. Much of what they used to do by hand is now done by machines."

The prophylactorium is being filled with their own calves. "Our livestock numbers allow us to ensure it is filled with our own calves," the director noted.

Work to create comfortable conditions for animals and improve their survival in the region continues. "We are building prophylactoria as part of the construction of livestock facilities under Decrees No. 365 and No. 143. That is, everything is aimed at improving conditions. There will be no calves kept outdoors. They are already under a roof now, and the construction of complexes — and prophylactoria along with them — continues," Olga Nikolaichenkova summarized.
